MS Walk

Jane Pavis, RYT, began studying Yoga and Reiki in 2002, a year after she was diagnosed with the disease, relapse-remitting Multiple Sclerosis. She has managed the disease through a daily practice of yoga, Reiki and Tibetan medicine ever since.

It is Jane's mission to demonstrate the benefits of Yoga to everyone living with MS through her classes, workshops, teacher trainings and PR. Alongside this, her goal is to bring awareness of the disease to everyone in the western world.

Jane teaches a blend of Hatha, Iyengar, Yin and Restorative yoga, infused with Love and Light from her Reiki training. Her main influences are Didi Otterson, Lobsang Dhondup, Erika Trice, Nikki Estrada, Sarah Powers and MS Yoga Guru Eric Small.

During the course of her disease, she has used western and eastern medicine, including Avonex, Copaxone, intravenous and oral steroids and Celexa. She is always drawn back to traditional Eastern Tibetan medicine because of its wholeness and purity. She believes that the key to healing and living with a chronic illness for which there is no cure, is to find what combination of treatment and support works for you.

Her symptoms have included numbness and tingling in her limbs, torso and face, tightness in her torso, spasticity, lack of sensing hot/cold, tingling in her spine, bowel and bladder incontinence, optic neuritis (partial blindness, blurriness, dullness in right eye), insomnia and depression.

Jane's immersion to yoga and reiki was a natural progression from childhood. Jane has always been very athletic. At school she was a dancer and represented the county for sports. She had a spiritual upbringing. Her mother was one of the first women ordained as an Episcopalian priest and Jane was an honors student in religious studies. From a young age, she learned that the true message behind religion is love and all-inclusiveness, regardless of who, where or how you pray.

Her interest for Eastern philosophy began in 1997 when she moved to San Francisco from England. She quickly found a Shaman teacher and her love for the Tibetan culture was sparked after attending a talk by author of the Tibetan Book of Living and Dying, Sogyal Rinpoche.

Reiki creates a perfect spiritual platform for Jane. It is non-religious and includes All. Reiki is the transference of the unseen Love and Light of the Universe through the practitioner's hands. By placing hands on the person receiving, the Reiki energy goes to where the individual needs healing most; physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually.
